40 miles- This easy ride starts in historic Lakeport and proceeds through rolling to flat country past orchards and vineyards into the resort community of Blue Lakes. Much wildlife, including deer, great blue heron and osprey can be seen along the way. Continue on through the communities of Witter Springs and historic Upper Lake, with many antique shops, restaurants and services. Your return trip continues along the shores of Clear Lake on the way back to Lakeport.

Library Park - Ample parking, restrooms, restaurants, snacks, bicycle shop on Main Street between Third and Fourth streets on the east side of the street. Begin this ride at Park and Third streets. Head up to Main (stop sign). Go right on Main Street through town past all facilities.

Turn left on Ilth Street with moderate traffic and narrow lanes. Head west past shopping center where bike lane begins and under Highway 29 where Ilth Street turns into Scotts Valley Road.

Moderate hill with narrow shoulders leads you into beautiful agricultural land with pears and walnuts. Follow Scotts Valley Road (rolling to flat) past pear packing sheds over bridge crossing Scotts Creek. Hendricks Road turns left and is an alternate route through the valley; is rolling, and connects with Scotts Valley Road.

Hendricks Road and Scotts Valley Road reconnect and Scotts Valley Road continues with little shoulder. This area abounds with wildlife. One can often see deer, rabbits and many species of birds including great blue heron, bald eagles (during the winter months) and osprey. This is farmland with beautiful vistas of hills, river and working farms. The road is narrow but lightly traveled.

Turn left on Laurel Deli Road - very narrow, no shoulder, use caution, traffic is light and usually very slow. This area skirts Laurel Deli Lake. Rolling hills and winding road, but cool in the summer heat. As you climb the second hill look up high in a dead conifer straight in front of you to see an osprey nest. You can often see this pair of ospreys and their young during the spring and summer.

Cross Mid Lake Road and continue on Laurel Deli Road. At 13.3 miles Laurel Deli Road becomes Blue Lakes Road. The area is residential and resort. Resorts have water, phone, restrooms and food. Continue on Blue Lakes Road up a moderate hill. Beautiful Blue Lakes view. As you leave The Narrows Lodge continuing northwest you can see another osprey nest with parents and young during the season. Blue Lakes Road rises high above the lake with spectacular views. Narrow road, very light traffic, ride carefully.

At stop sign turn right on Highway 20; use care, shoulders are narrow and traffic is heavy. Proceed past Blue Lakes and Laurel Deli Lake.

Resort, store, food and drink available. 20.5 Turn left onto Witter Springs Road and proceed 1.4 miles on narrow winding road leading through Bachelor Valley with farming and walnut orchards. This area is flat and narrow but lightly traveled. Turn left at stop sign staying on Witter Springs Road. Where Witter Springs Road runs into Bachelor Valley Road turn right, proceed to Highway 20.

At several locations along the way alternate routes are offered. Here you can take Highway 29 approximately 4 miles to the Nice-Lucerne Cutoff, under the freeway to Lakeshore Boulevard toward Lakeport. Route continues at 33.6 miles.

Turn right on Nice-Lucerne Cutoff. Wide shoulders, good surface and moderate traffic; cattle grazing and rice fields on right. Road narrows to no shoulder. Cross Rodman Slough Bridge - excellent fishing. Continue to Lakeshore Boulevard and turn left.

Turn left on Lakeshore Boulevard. Wide shoulder, good road, rolling hills, generally light traffic. (34.3 miles on Hill Road East to the right is Sutter Lakeside Hospital.) Continue on Lakeshore Boulevard along shore of Clear Lake, shoulder varies from wide to none.
