Anderson Marsh Historic State Park

The park's 400 acres of tule marsh and 13,000 feet of lake and stream shoreline are teaming with wildlife. The remaining 470 acres of meadow, oak and manzanita contain historic and prehistoric evidence of human habitation dating back about 10,000 years. As a new and undeveloped state park, Anderson Marsh is the perfect place to get away from the bustle and noise of the city.

Boggs Mountain

The Boggs Mountain Demonstration State Forest off Hwy. 175 in the Cobb Mountain area is a good example of Lake County's mountainous terrain. Entrance to the forest is 1.2 miles past the town of Cobb as you head north on Hwy .175. There is no sign right at the entrance, but a few yards before the turn-off is a blue sign that reads "State Fire Station" Turn right just pass this sign and head into the forest. Stop at the main office if you would like a map of all the hiking trails and campgrounds.

Clear Lake State Park

There are several miles of hiking trails and fire roads within the park. Most of the terrain is hilly, with elevations of 1,320 to 1,600 feet. You'll probably see deer and other smaller animals. Dorn Trail winds through oak woodland and chaparral. You will see a variety of vegetation, including oaks, manzanita, and a variety of native wildflowers. The three-mile trail is moderately strenuous, but there are some nice vistas and a pleasing variety of natural environments to enjoy. The Indian Nature Trail is a self-guiding trail that will help you understand how the local Indians used the native plants of this area to meet their daily needs. The trail, an easy quarter-mile walk, passes through the site of what was once a Pomo village.
