Anglers enjoy fly fishing, bow fishing, sport fishing, recreational fishing, fishing derbies, and fishing tournaments at many lakes and reservoirs in the county. Known as the Bass Capital of the West, Clear Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake: elevation 1,326 feet; 43,785 surface acres; depths up to 60 feet; average depth is 28 feet; average temperature is 61 degrees Fahrenheit; prevailing winds, mild westerly. Fog infrequent. Fishing Season 365 days per year. Each year more than 25 fishing tournaments take place on Clear Lake. Largemouth bass, crappie, catfish, bluegill, rainbow trout, and carp are among the catches from area lakes and reservoirs. Have you purchased your fishing license? You must have a valid California fishing license if you are 16 years of age or older. Several guides offer their services for fishing Clear Lake and other fishing paradises in the region.

Highland Springs Reservoir/Highland Creek Reservoir covers 146 acres of land and is fed by Highland Creek, 8 miles south of Highway 29 on Highland Springs Road. Species include catfish, bass, crappie, ad bluegill.

Lake Pillsbury There are 65 miles of shoreline in the heart of Mendocino National Forest, Access: Middle Creek Road, north of Upper Lake. From Potter Valley off Highway 20 via Eastside Potter Valley Road. Located 31 miles north of Upper Lake.
