Pet Friendly Travel
There’s no need to leave the family’s favorite four-legged kid at home when you vacation in Lake County. Dozens of lodgings have pet-friendly policies and most campground and RV Parks allow dogs. Edgewater Resort on Soda Bay has even been featured in books on traveling with your pets, and The Lodge at Blue Lakes has a dog agility course and hosts weekend camps for dogs.
Both Middletown Trailside Nature Preserve County Park and Boggs Mountain Demonstration State Forest on Cobb Mountain have pet-friendly walking and hiking trails; just follow the signs regarding areas where leashes are required.
Highlands Springs Recreation Area south of Lakeport and Kelseyville is also dog-friendly, and has a disc (Frisbee) golf course as well.Wild West Day in Upper Lake, the Kelseyville Pear Festival in Kelseyville, and the Middletown Days Parade in Middletown include dogs in the parade as well as in the audience.
Remember, it can be hot and dry in Lake County during the height of summer and early fall, so be sure not to leave your dog unattended in the car (which is against Lake County ordinance - we care about pooches!) and carry extra water and a dog bowl with you at all times.
